The silence stopped and became incarnate in Mary together with the Word. During these nine months, the Mother did not need to pray, if by praying we mean vocalizing feelings or concepts. Communication is never as profound as when nothing is said, and silence is never as eloquent as when nothing is communicated.<\/p>\n
Here, during these nine months, everything came to a standstill; and \u201cin\u201d Mary and \u201cwith\u201d Mary, everything was identified: time, space, eternity, the word, music, silence, the Mother, God. Everything was assumed and divinized. The Word became flesh.<\/p>\n
On Christmas night, the Mother dressed herself in sweetness and silence climbed to its highest peak. Here there is no house. There is no crib. There is no matron. We are at night. Everything is silence.<\/p>\n
Christmas Eve is full of activity: the hour of giving birth arrives, the Mother gives birth, wraps the newborn in swaddling clothes, lays him in a manger, angelic music breaks the silence of the night, the angel tells the shepherds the news that the Expected One has arrived, gives them the password to identify him, let us go quickly – say the shepherds -, they arrive at the grotto, find Mary, Joseph and the Child lying in the manger, surely they offered them something to eat or a gift, they told them what they had seen and heard that night, the listeners were amazed… And, in the midst of so much, what was the Mother doing, what was she saying? “Mary, for her part, kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart” (Lk 2:19).<\/p>\n
Ineffable sweetness, amid infinite happiness. And all in silence. Many mothers, when they give birth, cry with joy. We can imagine the intensity of the Mother’s joy. The experience is never as profound as when nothing is said.<\/p>\n
